Straighten Your Teeth Discreetly with Invisalign®
Invisalign® is an orthodontic technique used for about 20 years in which customary orthodontic brackets are not used. We have been doing selected Invisalign® cases at Berger Dental for over ten years. We evaluate the orthodontic issue and usually limit our Invisalign® cases to adults. When Invisalign® seems to be “not the best” we refer to an orthodontist. Very complicated orthodontics may require surgery, brackets, or other means.
The Invisalign® fabrication procedure involves evaluation, x-rays, photos, and impressions. The Invisalign laboratory creates a series of computer generated models in which they move the teeth from Alpha to Omega or A to Z. They send our office a series of active “retainer type” appliances to accomplish this feat. They are clear and pretty much invisible. We do not alter the shape of the patient’s teeth during this therapy as that would cause problems with appliance fit. Any fillings should be done prior to the Invisalign® for that reason. Other companies like “Clear Correct” also use “invisible orthodontics”. Invisalign® has its technique very well de-bugged and the attachments that are used are excellent. We also, at times, may move one or two teeth to facilitate a better restorative result with veneers, crowns, or bridges.
When the Invisalign® retainers are placed in the mouth, small attachments are bonded to certain teeth to facilitate movement of big teeth. Each set of aligners is worn for 2-3 weeks and then replaced with a new and progressive set of aligners. Sometimes 6-10 aligners are adequate and sometimes 20 or more are needed to move the patient from A-Z. Patients particularly enjoy the improvement without having brackets in their teeth. Again, they are virtually invisible.
Following adequate movement of the arches, retainers are made to hold the teeth in the new location. These are worn at night (sleeping) to protect the positions achieved.
